Despite the fact that Fort Bend is a safe community, we still have to be aware of the dangers that can occur at any given time of day. Like all great communities, danger can be right around the corner. If you ever find yourself in a dangerous situation, self defense is imperative to your survival. In the event that this happens, physical fitness can help protect you from this type of danger.
Keeping our own safety in mind, it’s always great to be prepared for any unforeseen dangers that can happen even in our own community. Although physical fitness is only one component of self defense, it is one of the most important factors of survival.
With that in mind, I want to share a few tips on how physical fitness can help protect you from unavoidable danger.
Be Aware of Your Surroundings
Despite of where we live, it is wise to always be familiar with the area around us and to protect ourselves at all times.
Being aware of your surroundings is one of the first steps to protecting yourself from danger. Women especially need to watch their surroundings. This is due to the fact that predators often target women who are out and about alone.
Also, try to keep your hands free. Keeping your hands occupied could make it harder for you to fight back.
Make sure you walk with confidence. If you walk with assurance, predators are more likely to guess that you will fight back. Walking with confidence could make predators think twice about you being an easy target.
Stay Physically Fit
Physically, it’s very important to make sure that you and your body are ready for anything and everything. Physical fitness is vital when it comes to self-defense. If you are stronger, you can hit harder. If you are faster, you would be able to run away better.
By being stronger, faster, and more fit, you will not only be better at protecting yourself, but you will also feel good about yourself and be more confidence.
In addition to being physically fit, another main ingredient in the recipe of being healthy is incorporating the right balanced diet.
On a daily basis, eating regular meals that are balanced with carbs, fat, and protein as well as a couple healthy snacks will aid you in being fit and ready to protect yourself.
By maintaining a healthy balanced diet, you will be able to maintain your muscle which is very beneficial in self-defense. You will also have the energy you need to take care of yourself in any situation.
Cardiovascular Strength
When it comes to self-defense, there are exercises that will be important in preparation for anything that can happen. A couple of goals you should try to achieve in the event that you must protect yourself are cardiovascular strength for stamina, and maintaining a healthy fit body.
Here are a few exercises you can do to help prepare your body.
- Speed walking or Jogging for one mile
- Bodyweight Squats (Anywhere from 25 to 50 square without any rest)
- Burpee with Push Up (15 burpees without any rest) See: Burbees for Beginners
- Heavy Bag Boxing workouts and shadow boxing
